Tri-Dual: Ferrum College, Presbyterian College & Gannon University

FERRUM, V.A. – – DIII Ferrum College will host the first event of the 2019-20 collegiate women’s wrestling season. Ladies from three teams are ready to hit the mats for a tri-dual in Virginia. Facing the Panthers at home are women from Presbyterian College (DI – Clinton, S.C.) and Gannon University (DII – Erie, P.A.).

Matches start at 6pm EST featuring Ferrum vs. Gannon, followed by Presbyterian vs. Gannon at 6:30pm and then Ferrum vs. Presbyterian at 7:30pm.

Ferrum’s full roster. Gannon’s dual team. Presbyterian’s full roster.

Women wrestle freestyle at ten weights in college: 101, 109, 116, 123, 130, 136, 143, 155, 170 and 191.

Looking at the line-ups, fans should expect at least close to thirty matches throughout the evening. Bouts between Presbyterian and Gannon will predominantly highlight battles between freshman and sophomores given the newness of the programs.

Gannon has doubled the size of their roster since last season and will wrestle a complete lineup across the ten weights. What was originally meant to be a quad, leveraging Gannon’s B team, dropped to a tri-dual given a handful of untimely injuries for the Knights.

“We have been working hard in the preseason and our athletes are excited to get out on the mat and see how they are growing,” said Gannon Head Coach Christen Dierken. “We are also excited to get out there and see what areas we really need to focus on in the mat room.”

This trip is historic for Presbyterian College—it’s the first time Head Coach Dany DeAnda and her team are on the road.

Coach Dany said, “We are excited to start the season off. With it being so early in the year this will be a good point of reference of where we are at and what we need to improve on.  Right now, the most important thing is mat time.  We hope our girls will go out there, wrestle hard and implement moves we’ve been practicing.”

Ferrum is the most tenured of the three programs, but Head Coach Breonnah Neal joined the Panthers just this year. On top of the home tri-dual, Coach Breonnah also coordinated a Super 32 Women’s Prep Clinic, which starts at 9am. “Don’t miss out on the chance to work out with Fargo All-Americans, state placers and great coaches.”
