Lourdes University adds women’s wrestling

Sylvania, O.H. – – After a short break in the pace of additions, Lourdes University joins the growing list of women’s wrestling programs announced this fall.

Janet Eaton, Lourdes Athletic Director, confirmed plans to have a team on the mats for the 2020-21 season—making the number of new programs for 2020-21 jump to 14.

“Women’s wrestling is moving quickly and growing fast on the NAIA scene,” said Eaton. “Lourdes athletics is a place where all can be successful. We welcome diversity and inclusion while being the first to break down barriers with stereotypes in a healthy environment. The addition of the sport aligns with the goal and mission of both athletics and the university as a whole.”

The add creates a second opportunity for Ohio wrestlers to stay in state to further their education while competing at the next level. Lourdes is the first NAIA member institution to offer the sport in Ohio, but the Gray Wolves are only about an hour North from the NCAA DIII program at Tiffin University, and even closer to the NCAA DIII program at Adrian College, and NAIA member institution Sienna Heights University when they begin in 2021.

The search for a head coach is happening right now. To apply, send a cover letter, resume, salary requirements, and contact information for three professional references (all in MS Word or .pdf format only) to resume@lourdes.edu.

Note: Ohio has not yet sanctioned girls wrestling at the interscholastic level. Wrestle Like A Girl’s state sanctioning resources make it easy to get involved!
