South Carolina – – The increasing depth within high school girls wrestling was showcased in Myrtle Beach at the annual Super 32 tournament on Sunday. Without U16 and Junior Nationals in Fargo this season, Super 32 was a first look at how some of USA Wrestling’s rankings may have changed since wrestling was paused in the spring. It was also a look at how some of the wrestlers have moved around in weight classes since the last rankings. Girls wrestled at 11 weights: 97, 103, 108, 115, 123, 130, 139, 148, 160, 172 and 195 pounds. This article looks at the finalists for each of those weights.

Maryland’s reigning Super 32 champ and #1 seed at 97 pounds is Alex Szkotnicki. Just a sophomore, Alex earned a second consecutive belt this weekend after winning by fall in all four matches—including the final bout versus Missouri’s Ava Ward, which she finished with a cradle. Szkotnicki wasn’t scored on during the finals in 2019 or 2020.

At 103 pounds, #1 seed Sterling Dias (NV) won the final bout 9-2 over Makennah Craft of Ohio. Dias trailed 2-1 late into the second period before collecting 8 points in less than 30 seconds, with a takedown and 3 consecutive laces. Dias, a Fargo champ and cadet World team member, outscored her opponents 29-2. The only points she gave up were push-out points to Craft in the finals.

Craft entered the tournament unseeded, but very quickly turned heads with an 8-4 upset over #2 seed Heaven Fitch in the round of 16, and #3 seed Anaya Falcon (CA) in the semifinals.

The 108-pound bracket was loaded with talent. No. 3 seed senior Olivia Shore (OH) claimed the title with a 2-0 victory over Cecilia Williams (MI) in the final bout, scoring with a double leg takedown in the first period. Shore edged out 2019 champion Nyla Valencia in the semifinals 5-4. Williams came into the day unseeded. She ousted Missouri’s #1 seed Faith Cole from a potential championship grab in the quarters, 4-2, and followed that up by defeating Maryland’s #4 seed Julianne Moccia 9-6 in the semis.

115-pound champion Jaclyn Dehney (NH) came into the tournament seeded #2. Just a sophomore, she finished her final bout versus senior Amiyah Hart (IL) by fall after trailing 7-0 into the final minute of the match. Hart, the #5 seed, upset #1 seed Chloe Ayres (NJ) 14-5 in the semifinals match to advance to the finals. Ayres, a 2019 super 32 champion at 108 pounds, worked the backside of the bracket and placed 3rd.

The 123-pound bracket was one of just three with a #1 versus #2 seed matchup in the finals. That said, #2 seed Katie Gomez won 4-4 by criteria over #1 seed Montana Delawder (PA). Gomez, a junior from California, teched Georgia’s Amani Jones 11-0 in the semis. Jones is a 2019 Cadet Fargo champion at 112-pounds. In total, Gomez outscored her opponents 35-6 en route to the title. Delawder is a 2019 Junior National champion at 112 pounds and placed 3rd at Super 32’s in 2019.

SaVannah Cosme was another unseeded head-turner—she won 5 matches to earn the title at 130 pounds. The junior from Colorado edged out #2 seed Lily Sherer (PA) by criteria 6-6 in the quarters and #3 seed Alexis Janiak (IL) 6-2 in the semis. Runner-up Devin Patton, a senior from Texas, outscored her opponents 42-1 leading into the finals match. Cosme kept Patton at bay in the final seconds, winning the title bout 4-3.

In another #1 versus #2 seeded final, senior Chloe Ogden came out the 139-pound champion. The Florida native dominated the bracket with a pair of falls, a pair of techs and a 12-3 victory by points. One of those falls was in the final match against #2 seed Haley Ward. Ogden was 3rd at this weight in 2019. Ward, a sophomore from Missouri, was a 127-pound Cadet National runner-up in 2019.

California’s Cheyenne Bowman grabbed the 148-pound title without giving up a single point. And she did it all in less than 4 minutes. Up 6-0, Bowman defeated #2 seed Dakota Dinielli (CT) by fall in the finals. Dinielli collected a pair of technical superiorities on her way to the finals.

Tiffani Baublitz (#1 seed) was virtually untouched in the 160-pound bracket. The senior from Pennsylvania was a 2019 Fargo champ at 152 pounds. Finalist Jessi Johnson (NJ) upset #2 seed Kiersten O’Neil in the semifinal match.

Unseeded Jaylen Hyman collected the 172-pound title. The senior from Maryland upset #2 seed Sierra Chavez 4-0 in the semis and #1 seed Dasia Yearby (SC) in the final bout 10-0.

195 pounds featured a round-robin style bracket, and 3 of the 5 wrestlers were from Texas. Senior Brittyn Corbishley (TX) collected falls in all four matches and outscored her opponents 27-1. Brittyn placed 7th at Junior Nationals in 2019.
