Campbellsville wrapped up day two of the WCWA National Championship with the team title and 13 All-Americans, including 3 champions. Collecting 230 total points, the Tigers were a whopping 117 points ahead of #2 Life University.

Campbellsville’s 3 champions were back-to-back champ Abby Nette at 130 pounds, Mariah Harris at 170 pounds and Alexandra Castillo at 191 pounds. Head Coach Lee Miracle was awarded WCWA Coach of the Year.

101-pound champion Esthela Trevino (Umpqua CC) was the only wrestler from a JUCO program to win the tournament. She defeated Campbellsville’s McKenzie Bacich—who upset the #1 seed in the first round—with a 2-2 criteria decision.

At 109 pounds, Augsburg freshman Emily Shilson won the championship bout with an 11-1 tech fall over McKayla Campbell. Shilson was awarded the Outstanding Wrestler of the Year.

First year program Presbyterian had five All-Americans and two champions. Freshman duo Jaslynn Gallegos (116) and Morgan Norris (143) both took out another pair of Campbellsville wrestlers in the finals.

Life University, Adrian College and Oklahoma City University had one champion a piece.

Julia Vidallon of Life University won the 123 pound finals bout vs Augsburg freshman Vayle Baker, 5-2. Adrian’s Zoe Nowicki collected the only fall of the finals session at 136 pounds over Big Bend’s Aliyah Yates in just over two minutes.

At 155 pounds, Rachel Watters (OCU) controlled the match vs 2019 WCWA champion Jayden Laurent (Lakeland), claiming her title with a 6-1 decision.

Each of the champions qualified to compete at the 2020 Olympic Trials Qualifier at State College, April 4-5.

Because the NAIA and NCAA have both granted women’s wrestling emerging sport status, NCAA and NAIA programs will compete in their respective National Championship Invitational tournaments the first and second weekends in March.
